Description

Until 1977, no physician had ever lived and worked in the community of L'Ardoise, a small town in Cape Breton. People traveled 65 miles to Sydney or 80 miles to Antigonish for medical care. The L'Ardoise Parish Council, in its efforts to attract a doctor, renovated an existing building into a doctor's office. Dr. William Kingston set up practice in 1977. The practice quickly grew to include more than 5,000 patient files. At that time it was necessary to relocate to a larger building.

In 1983, the Clinic was moved to its present site in the local convent, After much renovation, the clinic officially opened on December 12, 1983 and fulfilled Dr. Kingston's dream of a community health centre. Dr. Kingston's generosity was without limit. He continued to put profits back into the clinic to purchase equipment.

The Community of L'Ardoise was indeed fortunate to have Dr. Kingston in our midst for the too short period of seven and a half years. He touched our lives, influenced many of us to continue his dream. His values, faith and ideals spur us on to continue the work he started. We are a very small Community Health Centre that still relies very heavily on public donations.

Please help us to continue the dream of Dr. W B Kingston by donating to our organization.
