Who We Are

The Victoria Cool Aid Society (Cool Aid) provides affordable housing, emergency shelters, primary health and dental care, nutritious meals, and wellness programs such as recreation, employment, and volunteer opportunities. With your support, the staff helps more than 12,000 people annually at 20 locations in Victoria, Saanich, and Langford. Cool Aid houses and supports more people who have been homeless in their community than any other organization on Vancouver Island.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Health and Support Services, The Manager of Community Health Services leads day-to-day operations of both the Johnson Street and the Dr. Joe Haegert Community Health Centres. This senior role upholds the organization's values and integrates community health services with other Cool Aid programs.

This position is responsible for providing support and direction to a team of health professionals, managing staff culture, development, and performance with a $15 million annual budget. The Manager will champion client-centered services, fostering diversity and inclusion with a deep understanding of anti-colonial and anti-racist practices.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership both within the Health Centers and Cool Aid as well as the larger community with a focus on coordination and integration of services and care.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary cross practice standards and procedures where required and ensure resources and operational planning are in place to support a multidisciplinary team providing a spectrum of health care services.
  • Work collaboratively with Directors and Managers to develop strategic initiatives to address key capacity challenges.
  • Oversee the day-to-day financial activities of the Community Health Centers’ programs, and meet financial and operational needs.
  • Meet contractual reporting and outcome requirements.
  • Provide clear scope of responsibilities and direction to all direct reports.
  • Establish performance standards, evaluate performance of direct reports and take corrective action up to and including termination.
  • Foster strong and mutually beneficial relationships with senior leadership and staff.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships outside of the Society and support collaborations and partnerships that further community initiatives, while preserving the identity and visibility of Community Health Services.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • A master’s degree or equivalent training and experience in Health Administration, Social Work, or Business Management with an emphasis on not-for-profit community-based organizations.
  • Five (5)+ years’ experience of direct program management experience in the community health sector, including program planning and evaluation, administrative and financial management, personnel management, case management, psycho-social rehabilitation, critical incident intervention, and conflict resolution.

Requirements

  • Complete the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Record Check.

Job Information

  • Salary: $101,462.40
  • Work Location: the Johnson Street and the Dr. Joe Haegert Community Health Centres
  • Work Days: Monday-Friday
  • Shift Times: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. With some flexibility for weekends and evenings as needed.
  • Weekly Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Union: Exempt.
  • Benefits Eligible for 100% employer-paid including health and dental care benefits. Long-term disability, employee and family assistance program, compensatory time off, paid sick time, and four weeks of vacation.
  • Job Type Full time - Permanent.
