1.0 FTE Mental Health and Wellness Promoter – Permanent Full Time

Belleville and Quinte West Community Health Centre (BQWCHC)

($52,980 - $64,428 / year - based on 35 hours/week)

 

Job Summary:

The Mental Health and Wellness Promoter is a mental health and wellness champion, promoting positive change in the community. This role is responsible for group-based programming, health promotion education and community development activities related to mental health and wellbeing.  As part of the Community Health Team, the Mental Health and Wellness worker facilitates client and community engagement and works with individuals and the community on issues that affect their mental health. This position is accountable to the Manager of Community Health Programs and Engagement.

 

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Mental Health Promotion – Champion mental health and wellbeing through the creation of and participation in mental health promotion strategies including raising awareness, advocacy, skill building and health education, individual and community capacity building through empowerment and community development.
  • Community Programming and Initiatives – Engage with the community and relevant data sources, with a focus on priority populations, to identify issues and needs for the purpose of developing, implementing, organizing, facilitating and evaluating engaging programming and community development initiatives to support a strengths-based approach to mental health.
  • Quality Improvement – Participate in quality assurance practices consistent with current research and evidence based best practice guidelines
  • Teamwork – Work collaboratively as a member of the BQWCHC interdisciplinary team, foster ongoing partnerships with community agencies and establish new community partnerships, as appropriate, to facilitate collaborative action in addressing the mental health needs in the community
  • Mentoring – Participate in the selection, orientation and supervision of volunteers as applied to program related activities

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Social Work or related field OR comparable combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of three years of professional experience; preferably in a community setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mental health issues and current practices for skill building and health education
  • Strong group programming and educational workshop facilitation skills
  • Experience establishing, coordinating and maintain community partnerships
  • Ability to work effectively from a person-centred, strengths-based and trauma-responsive approach informed by an understanding of the social determinants of health
  • Experience working with and understanding of issues facing individuals and families facing barriers to access and other health equity disparities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; verbal and written communications skills and the ability to communication information effectively through a variety of means
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and multitask effectively, as well as the ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to change
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications
