CORE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
This position will support the mission, vision and values of the Windsor Essex Community Health Centre. This position will support safety and quality care of clients/patients. The Addictions Support Worker will
- Assist with addictions intake, assessment and intervention for at risk clients.
- Using a harm reduction approach, assist clients to develop skills to manage substance use and related problems.
- Educate clients on substance recovery maintenance, relapse prevention and life skills management.
- Assist clients in prioritizing life area needs and setting recovery goals.
- Support clients to navigate the health care system by attending appointments, acting as an advocate as needed, etc.
- Provide short term individual and group addiction support.
- Provide education to community agencies regarding the role of the addiction support worker and ways to coordinate community services to better support clients wanting help with their addictions.
- Ensure programming areas, resources, materials and equipment are safely stored, used appropriately and maintained.
- Work collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic support of clients requiring help with addictions.
- Respect the cultural diversity of the community and weCHC, ensuring an inclusive and welcoming climate for all.
- Facilitate group education and training sessions to groups.
- Contribute to chart documentation, participate in chart reviews and case conferences and make referrals to other community services as appropriate.
- Perform other duties that support the mission and vision of the organization and/or as assigned based on position responsibilities and/or site requirements.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Minimum of 3-5 years recent experience working in a community mental health and addictions program.
- Experience working in an inter-professional team environment.
- Strong communication and excellent interpersonal skills, problem solving, organizational and administrative skills.
- Strong attention to client and family-centered care and establishing therapeutic relationships.
- Clean driver’s abstract, current, valid class “G” driver’s license and reliable transportation to support travel across Windsor-Essex County and the province, as required.
- Bilingual (English/French) language skills an asset.
Education and certificate requirements
- Post-secondary education in a human services related field.
- Drug & Alcohol Counselling Diploma or Certificate from an accredited university or college program.
- Professional designation as a Canadian Certified Addiction Counsellor (CCAC).
- Certificate in Trauma Assessment and Treatment an asset.
- ASIST training an asset.
- Current CPR and First Aid certified an asset.
