Salary:                                  $64,175 to $75,500 per year

Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC) is a diverse, dynamic, multiservice Indigenous health and wellness agency.  We strive to provide quality, wholistic health services by sharing and promoting traditional and western health practices to enable people to live in a more balanced state of well-being. SOAHAC provides services to Indigenous people including those who live on and off reserve, status, non-status, Inuit, and Metis within the Southwest, Waterloo Wellington and Erie St Clair regions.  SOAHAC has a mandate of ensuring that health services are accessible, of high quality, and are culturally appropriate. It is SOAHAC’s objective to build health care capacity within Indigenous communities.  Currently, we are seeking the services of a Communications Coordinator to join our interdisciplinary staff team to work at our London Site.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Communications Coordinator is responsible for managing internal and external communications for the organization. This role is crucial in fostering effective communication both internally and externally, enhancing the organization’s reputation and promoting its goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Communications, Marketing or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a communications or marketing role
  • Exceptional writing and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office, Canva and other design software and capable of creating visually compelling presentations, resources, and communication.
  • Proven knowledge of communications and marketing ethics and best practices
  • Proficient public speaking abilities
  • Strong networking and relationship management skills
  • Ongoing willingness to learn Indigenous cultural competency and cultural traditions and practices.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle, a valid driver’s license and insurance required with ability to travel regularly within region and occasional provincial travel and/ or other SOAHAC sites as required.
  • Clean and current police check as a condition of employment.
  • Up-to-date immunizations and records

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate communication within the organization by disseminating important information, updates and announcements to employees through various channels such as email, SharePoint, or meetings
  • Manage the organization’s communication with external stakeholders including clients, partners, media and the general public
  • Craft press releases, manage social media accounts, respond to inquiries and maintain a positive public image for the organization
  • Develop content for various communication channels including written materials such as articles, blog posts and reports as well as visual content like graphics, videos and presentations
  • Build and maintain relationships with members of the media to generate positive press coverage for the organization
  • Pitch story ideas, coordinate interviews and respond to media inquiries
  • Assist in the planning and execution of event such as conferences, workshops, group programs and press conferences, ensuring that communication strategies align with event objectives
  • Ensure consistency in messaging and branding across all communication channels to reinforce the organization’s identity, mission, vision and values
  • Monitor effectiveness of communication strategies and campaigns through metrics such as website traffic, social media engagement and media mentions
  • Provide reports and analysis to inform future communication efforts
