The first day of the CACHC Conference featured an important Provincial Community Health Centre Associations Meeting, the first of its kind, aimed at better coordinating efforts between CACHC and all provincial CHC associations across the country. Participants from six provinces met to plan the strategic future of Canada’s federal and provincial CHC associations and movement. Clear consensus emerged among the Canadian Association of Community Health Centres, the British Columbia Federation of Community Health Centres, the Alberta Association of Community Health Centres, the Manitoba Association for Community Health, the Association of Ontario Health Centres and the Nova Scotia Federation of Community Health Centres that the shared mission of CHCs across Canada can only be achieved through a concerted effort to advance both federal and provincial associations and a shared agenda for action.
Later in the day, the 2015 CACHC Annual General Meeting featured launch of CACHC’s 2014-15 Annual Report and an inspiring keynote talk by Dr. Shabir Moosa from Soweto, South Africa, who spoke about the state of community-based primary health care in South Africa and the country’s progress on a national health insurance program.
Following the AGM, during a conference Welcome Reception, we also got the opportunity to try out our conference Speakers Corner with a few eager delegates. The Speakers Corner served as a window to the conference, where participants could share their thoughts, insights and ideas about topics addressed at the conference via 30 to 60 second video interviews. See all Speakers Corner clips on the conference main page.
