Black History Month at Community Health Centres across Canada

CACHC works with its members to reduce social and health inequities experienced by diverse groups and communities across Canada, including African, Caribbean, and Black communities. This includes addressing anti-Black racism and other social and economic determinants of health. Many Community Health Centres across Canada, such as TAIBU Community Health Centre, Black Creek Community Health Centre, Centre Francophone du Grand Toronto, North End Community Health Centre, Somerset West Community Health Centre, and Women’s Health in Women’s Hands Community Health Centre play local and national leadership roles in this work.

For Black History Month we want to highlight the work some of our Community Health Centre members are doing and special events, education opportunities, and other activities being held to tackle anti-Black racism and improve education and equity for the diverse Black communities they serve. We encourage all Community Health Centres, regardless of location and populations served, to participate in education and community engagement focused on equity for Black community members, families, and communities. This is a commitment we should strive to make not just during Black History Month, but year-round. Education is key, and one of the best ways to combat ignorance and stem anti-Black racism.

Here are some activities, events, and education opportunities to benefit from at Community Health Centres during Black History Month:
