1998: Building on the success of pan-Canadian CHC gatherings in 1993 and 1995, CACHCA sets its sights on a larger scale event. The 3rd pan-Canadian CHC conference is held in March, in Victoria, British Columbia, under the banner theme “The Spirit of Health Care is In Our Hands”. By way of the conference, CACHCA evolves its areas of activity, adding a new focus on policy development and advocacy.
With CACHCA’s lead, conference delegates approve a declaration to “preserve and enhance the publicly-funded health care system in Canada”, expressing the belief that core health services in Canada, including all primary health care services, should be included within the basket of oversights and regulation covered by the five principles described in the Canada Health Act.
